Does a student have to be Catholic to attend Saint Leonard?
Saint Leonard welcomes children of all faiths. We nurture our students' growth in their relationship with Jesus Christ and in academic excellence. Our school provides well-planned religious instruction, experiences and stewardship opportunities in a caring environment.
What advanced technology is available to the students at Saint Leonard?
Saint Leonard has a state-of-the-art science lab, outdoor science classroom and wetlands, and a computer lab, including 25 pc's and SMART Technology (interactive whiteboards and document camera) - PreKindergarten through 8th grade classrooms are all equipped with SMARTboard and document cameras. Middle Schools Students are equipped with personal devices for 1:1 instructional use. A cart of iPad mini's was is available for shared use between primary and intermediate classrooms. An updated infrastructure supports all devices to avoid lapses in service. Saint Leonard uses Sycamore Education (an online Student Management System) to enable parents to monitor daily their children's homework and academic progress.
What is offered for advanced students?
Core class placement is available for excelling students. In addition, Duke T.I.P. Achievement Testing is offered to students scoring 90 percent or better in any subject based on results from standardized testing. High School Algebra I is also offered to eligible 8 grade students on our campus – selection is based upon qualifying grades by the end of his/her 7 grade year in addition to standardized test scores (students are tested upon completion to receive credit for high school).
Is a foreign language offered?
Spanish is offered to all students students in Kindergarten through 8th grade.
What type of tutoring is offered at Saint Leonard?
Saint Leonard has a dedicated Resource Department available to all students that works with students on an individual basis who may need extra help. The Resource Coordinator also offers services to those students who need an extra challenge. Homework hall is offered in the afternoons by various staff members for a small fee.
Does Saint Leonard offer a preschool program?
We offer preschool programs to three and four year old children - half or full day; prior to enrollment, students must be potty trained. Children enrolled in a half-day program are also welcome to stay for "Lunch Bunch" which is an extended day program that dismisses at 3 pm (when the rest of the school dismisses). If families require childcare beyond that time, the Northeast YMCA offers “Y-Care” After School program until 6 pm for students four years of age and older.

Saint Leonard is “small by design”– history shows the largest student count as 209. * Our student/teacher ratio is 15:1.
How is homework communicated?
In teaching responsibility and accountability to our students, they are encouraged to write down all assignments in their assignment books - teachers check planners daily. Additionally, long-term homework assignments, quizzes and tests are posted on Sycamore Education.
Is financial aid available?
Yes. To receive assistance to offset tuition costs, student scholarships are available through PSAS (C.E.F. - applications typically due to their offices by March), School Choice (applications typically due to their offices by April) and the Lorline Yocum Foundation (copy of PSAS application and all supporting materials due to our Parish Office by May 1). Applications for all are available through the School or Parish offices and online.
How can parents get involved in Saint Leonard School?
There are a multitude of opportunities for parental involvement at our school. We have a very strong PTO. Parents are encouraged to join a committee, be a board member, or a member at large. The School Advisory Council (SAC) is also made up of parents. The role of SAC is to work with administration and assist in an advisory capacity. Parental involvement is always welcome in the form of room parents, coaches, lunch room helpers, field trip chaperones, just to name a few.
What is the financial status and future of Saint Leonard School?
Saint Leonard has very strong financial support from the Parish and community. We are a small school, but financially sound and stable. No one can currently predict the future of the Archdiocese for ANY school, but our strong Parish support allows us to stay solid.
What sports and extra-curricular activities are offered at Saint Leonard School?
While the athletic program is not a part of the school program, any student enrolled at Saint Leonard is eligible to play on any of the various athletic teams that form throughout the year.
CSAA Sports offered at Saint Leonard include: Archery (4th - 8th grade), basketball, cross-country/track, field hockey (paired with Sacred Heart Model School), Football (paired with Our Lady of Lourdes), lacrosse (paired with Holy Spirit/Holy Trinity), soccer (fall league only for K through 2) and volleyball. Students are also encouraged to participate in extra curricular activities, such as Book Bee, Environmental Club, Governor's Cup, KYA (Kentucky Youth Assembly), Quick Recall and Scouting (beginning in Kindergarten for girls, and in Grade 1 for boys).
